Approach

Join for Joy was set up in 2011 and started its activities in Kenya, in the region Thika. In 2015 Join for Joy expanded its activities to Uganda, the Kabale region. In the second half of 2017 the first Kick-off camps will take place in Zambia. Join for Joy works closely together with local partner organizations that have a strong foothold in the communities, and know the participating schools well.

Join for Joy selects the countries and regions based on the following criteria:

  • There should be a strong need for support in terms of sports and play at schools
  • Join for Joy only works with schools and teachers as institutionalized agents of change
  • The schools should be situated in rural areas, where it is harder to find resources for the implementation of sports and play curriculum
  • The area of intervention should be safe enough to travel for trainers and staff.

The teachers play a crucial role in the success of the Sports and play program. Join for Joy aims to train knowledgeable, skilled and motivated teachers who are critical thinkers, capable of driving change and educating their pupils. Join for Joy inspires the teachers by engaging them in the shared joy of sports and play and contribute to the awareness of the positive impact of sports and play on the development of children.
